Understand that we have shortcomings: No one is perfect, in any sense of the word and chances are that you may already have shortcomings that you are not aware of yet. A little humility can help you assess and retrospect on certain situations as they arise and it should also allow you to gauge the causative factors correctly. Of course, you could ask as to what point it serves to know that you are at fault. For one, realizing that you are the reason for the failure can actually help you take corrective measures so that your next attempt is a success. Bottom line, humility and success often go hand in hand.

Character building: Being an underrated virtue, it may be hard for some to comprehend as to why humility is often tagged as an essential virtue. But the fact remains that it does as it makes it possible for you to take a deep look within yourself and at all your flaws. More often than not, you may be in the habit of blaming others for something that you did but it is high time that you took a hard look within yourself and accepted responsibility for your actions. This is why Humility is essential as it helps you to do just that and in the process, it helps to build your character.

Vulnerable: As an offshoot to being humble, you may become more vulnerable and sensitive; while earlier on you may have refused to ask others for help on account of ego issues, a little humility should enable you to overcome any ego issue. Granted that it is critical that you do not depend on the largesse of others to get through life but rather that you depend on your own skills and talent. But the fact is that most people often do require help and assistance in one form or the other; it is critical you realize when the time is right to ask others for help and a little humility can help you do just that.

To maintain a healthy outlook: Being humble allows you to develop a fresh perspective on life and to maintain a healthy outlook. For starters, you would be able to understand the fact that you are not infallible, that you are human only and therefore prone to making mistakes. This should enable you to remain firmly rooted in reality and should enable you to gauge your own strengths and weakness accurately. Overconfidence can be dangerous and is often one of the causative factors behind some of the worst accidents and pileups on various highways in the past decade. It is important that you have a clear idea of your own abilities and not make the mistake of being overconfident. That’s why it is important that you choose to be humble as it keeps you firmly rooted in reality and pragmatic at the same time.
